According to News updates Seven Death in jhelum gas cylinder blast 2023.JHELUM:At once five people were killed and 10 others injured when a gas cylinder explosion destroyed a three-story building on Grand Trunk Road in Jhelum, rescuers and district administration officials said on Sunday.
Jhelum (DC) Deputy Commissioner Samiullah Farooq confirmed the casualties in his talk to the media.
Police said District Police Officer (DPO) Nasir Mehmood Bajwa was supervising the rescue operation at the scene.
The gas cylinder exploded in the kitchen of the Sikandar Hotel on the main GT road in the morning. According to Rescue 1122 officials, about 30 people were having breakfast in the dining room when the tragedy occurred.
"The intensity of the explosion was so severe that the hotel building collapsed," said a rescue worker. “People were screaming for help under the rubble. Heavy machinery was used to remove the rubble and recover the people buried below,” he added.
According to the officials, five bodies and at least 10 rescued wounded were recovered from under the rubble, who were taken to the Jhelum District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). “An emergency has been declared at the DHQ Hospital in Jhelum,” a doctor said.
DPO Bajwa and DC Farooq reviewed relief operations at the incident site. Local police said on Twitter that they were actively participating in relief efforts under the supervision of the DPO.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep pain and sorrow over the death of five people. In a statement, the prime minister sympathized with the bereaved families and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased. He wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The Jhelum incident was the second gas cylinder explosion in the province in 24 hours. Earlier, seven people were killed and 14 others injured in a cylinder explosion in a vehicle in Bhalwal tehsil of Sargodha district on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by Rescue 1122, the explosion occurred near the Government College of Commerce at 8:35 a.m. They said the LPG leak from the cylinder also caught fire.
According to the statement, the bodies and seven seriously injured were rushed to Bhalwal Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ). Last month, at least three separate gas cylinder explosions were reported across the country, killing five people.
